Fungal infection
Fungal infections are caused by fungi which is non-photosynthetic parasites. It can be divided broadly into two forms, moulds and yeasts. Fungal infections of the skin are very common and include athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, and yeast infections. They tend to produce harmful effects by producing mycotoxins, by evoking allergic reactions or by direct tissue invasion.
Cause
Fungal skin infections can occur on almost any area of the body, but they are more commonly found in where two skin areas may touch or rub together. Such areas include the armpits, groin, and skin folds, as well as the area between your fingers and toes. The fungus thrives in warm, moist, and sweaty conditions. People who are overweight, diabetes, iron or zinc deficiency, immunodeficiency, working in wet conditions are more prone to fungal infection.
Symptoms
Itching, cracks in the skin, scaling, red or purple patches of the skin are the common symptoms.
Prevention
Armpits, groin area, and other areas that are prone to infection should be kept clean and dry. After shaving skin should be dried up thoroughly. Cloths especially undergarment should be changed regularly.
