Marrubium vulgare MT is an expectorant and in large doses it is used as laxative. The spray dried extract has been shown to be hypocholeretic and antispasmodic. It has been found useful for prevention of migraine caused by digestive troubles, prevention of post prandial flushing and as anti-diarrhoeal agent. It is used as stimulant to mucous membranes, specially laryngeal and bronchial, chronic bronchitis, dyspnoea, hepatic disorders, cold and cough. The phyto-therapist use it for bronchitis, bronchial asthma, non-productive cough and whooping cough. It contains marrubiin and other compounds, which are considered as strong expectorant, as a result it helps secretion of more fluids by coughing. The herb is also reported to normalize heartbeats. Its anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, radical scavenging and anti-diabetic activities were found recently. It is also proved to significant lowering of total lipids, triglycerides, and total cholesterol levels in treated animals.
