Homoeopathically, Majorana (origanum majorana) MTĀ is used in affections of breast, erotomania, hysteria, leucorrhoea, nymphomania, seminal emissions and sexual irritation. The plant is carminative, expectorant, and acts as tonic to the liver. Leaves and seeds are astringent and remedy for colic. Essential oil from leaves used for hot fomentations in acute diarrhoea. In phyto-therapy it is used to reduce flatulence, colic, to relieve anxiety, headache and sleeplessness. Recent studies have found it posses anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
