Cynara scolymus MT

Leaves are bitter and considered diuretic, useful in dropsy and rheumatism. Flower heads contain insulin very valuable in the diet of the diabetics; it is indicated for obesity with boulimia and polyurea, excessive salivation, frequent evacuations, congested and enlarged liver, increased arterial tension, precordial angina, strabismus, diplopia, polyurea, and nymphomania. Protection of liver against toxins and infection, helping digestion and increasing bile secretion are documented. As food, it is good for diabetics. There are reports of lowering of blood sugar, in jaundice and experimentally on malignant cells.
