Anagallis arvensis MT

Anagallis arvensis MT has marked action on skin, characterised by great itching and tingling everywhere. Favours expulsion of splinters. An old medicine for hydrophobia and dropsy. It possesses the power of softening flesh and destroying warts. It is also used in Indian medicines in gouts, cerebral affections, leprosy, epilepsy mania, and in snake-bite. Research reports cover antiviral, diuretic, estrogenic, anti-poliomyelitis and anti-fungal activities. A triterpene saponin isolated from this drug was found to inhibit the replication of herpes simplex virus type 1 and poliovirus type 2 as shown by inhibition of cytopathic effect and reduction of virus production.
